India Reply To Netherlands On Russia-Ukraine War: India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) TS Tirumurti, while replying to the Netherlands Ambassador to Britain, said, 'Please let us know' Don't give advice, India knows what to do. In fact, the Dutch Ambassador had said that India should have participated in the United Nations General Assembly on the Ukraine issue.

India did not take any side in Russia and Ukraine

Three days after the Russian military launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24, Russia recognized separate regions of Ukraine - Donetsk and Luhansk - as independent territories. Since January this year, India has stayed away from voting and drafting resolutions in the UN Security Council, the General Assembly and the Human Rights Council condemning the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Responding to a tweet by Karel Van Oosterom, Ambassador of the Netherlands to the UK and Northern Ireland, Tirumurti said, "Please don't tell us Ambassador. We know what we have to do. In the tweet, the Dutch ambassador told Tirumurti, 'You should have attended the Mahasabha. Respect the United Nations Charter.

Comment on India's absence

Earlier on Wednesday, Tirumurti made a statement in the United Nations Security Council meeting regarding the Ukraine issue. Posting his statement on Twitter, he said, "I made a statement at the UN Security Council meeting on the Ukraine issue this afternoon, on which Van Oosterom commented on India's absence in the General Assembly." India was absent from voting on a US resolution moved in the UN General Assembly in April to suspend Russia from the UN Human Rights Council.

The resolution alleged that Russian troops killed civilians while retreating from cities near the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. India had distanced itself from a resolution moved by Ukraine and its allies to the UN General Assembly in March on the issue of the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, saying that the focus should be on ending hostilities and immediate humanitarian aid, and the draft will address these challenges. Doesn't fully reflect India's expectations of focus.

The General Assembly voted on March 2 to reaffirm its commitment to its sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity within the internationally recognized Ukraine's borders and strongly condemned Russia's attack against Ukraine. India, along with 34 other countries, was absent from the resolution, with 141 votes in favor and five member countries voting against the resolution.
