Airtel tests 5G powered cloud gaming on a smartphone, achieves 1000 Mbps speed

Airtel has successfully tested cloud gaming on a 5G network for the first time in India.
The demonstration has been done in Manesar (Gurugram) as part of the ongoing 5G trial using spectrum allocated by the Department of Telecommunications. Randeep Sekhon, CTO, Bharti Airtel said, cloud gaming will be one of the biggest use cases for 5G, which will deliver top speeds.

We are thrilled to conduct this 5G gaming session. You can do gaming with anyone sitting in any other part of the world. This is the start of an exciting digital future that Airtel will enable for its customers as we prepare to roll out 5G in India. For 5G cloud gaming demonstration, Airtel partnered with two of India's leading gamers – Mortal (Naman Mathur), and Mamba (Salman Ahmed).

Cloud gaming will allow users to stream and play games without having to download or invest in gaming hardware. With the advent of 5G networks, cloud gaming is expected to be the new normal, so that users can enjoy the gaming experience on your smartphones and tablets like big consoles.

According to Statista, India will see mobile gaming grow into a $2.4 billion market opportunity with its huge youth population, growing demand for smartphones and 5G networks. It is expected to reach 510 million by 2022 based on 436 million online gamers in India.

Earlier this year, Airtel successfully demonstrated 5G services on its live 4G network in Hyderabad, leading the industry. It is also conducting 5G tests in several cities across India and validating the technology and use cases through the test spectrum allotted by the DoT. Airtel has partnered with Ericsson and Nokia for these tests.
