In the bronze medal match between India and Germany on Thursday, the German team had a 5-3 lead till the third quarter. Germany scored a goal in the fourth quarter, but even then India's lead remained intact. With this, India has confirmed its 5th medal.

India for the last time Moscow Olympics had made the finals in 1980 and then won the last gold of his eight gold medals. Since then, the level of Indian hockey has gone down and the team has never been able to make it to the last 4 even before this Olympics.
