Corona Vaccination: Policy to include private sector in vaccination proved to be unsuccessful, government data giving testimony

Corona Vaccination: Two and a half months ago, the central government had decided to reserve 25 percent of the vaccine for the private sector. According to statistics, these hospitals have been able to do only 7 percent vaccination so far.

Corona Vaccination: The central government had also included private sector hospitals about two and a half months ago to speed up the vaccination drive across the country. The government had decided to reserve 25 percent of the vaccine manufactured in the country for these private sector hospitals. However, according to its own data, the private sector has been able to vaccinate only 7 percent of its quota so far.

According to a report published in the Times of India, during the monsoon session on July 20, Congress MP Mallikarjun Kharge had asked a question about this in the Rajya Sabha. In response, the Health Ministry said that from May 1 to July 15, 2021, about 7 percent vaccination has taken place at private centers. Since then, many health experts are raising questions about giving 25 percent quota of vaccine to private hospitals. Many state governments have also urged the Center to reduce or eliminate this quota completely.

Vaccination does not fit with the model of private hospital

According to Dr. T. Sundararaman of People's Health Movement, "The central government is emphasizing the state governments regarding vaccination at private centers. Even after so many efforts, vaccination is happening at a very slow pace in private hospitals. The reason for this is that private The work of vaccination does not fit in any way with the infrastructure of the hospital. That's why these hospitals are not showing interest in it."

According to Dr. Rama Baru, Professor, Center of Social Medicine and Community Health, JNU, “These poor vaccination figures are a testimony to the fact that private hospitals do not think about preventive health and well being of the people. They have regulated the prices of the vaccine, they do not see any benefit in it. As long as these hospitals were able to charge arbitrary prices for the vaccine, they were interested in it.

Most people cannot afford to get the vaccine in private hospitals.

At the same time, Professor R Ramkumar, economist at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), said, "Most people cannot afford to get the vaccine in these private hospitals. What percentage of the vaccine has to be given to the private sector, until the central government decides this on the states." Everything was going well till then. If we had followed this policy, then these figures could have been better."
