Patients recovering from corona suddenly started increasing risk of 'Black Fungus', know its 10 symptoms

Corona virusDue to this, the risk of a serious fungal infection mucormycosis is increasing in many cities including Delhi. It is also known as black fungus and has long been the cause of death of patients.

According to an NDTV report,Dr. Manish Munjal, Senior ENT Surgeon of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, told that due to corona, this dangerous fungal infection is increasing again.

He said that at least six cases of mucoramycosis had been reported in the last two days. Last year, many patients lost their eyesight and the nose and jaw bone were removed due to this fatal infection.

Dr. Ajay Swarup, chairman of the ENT department at the hospital, said that steroids are used in the treatment of corona, along with the fact that many corona patients have diabetes, which may be one reason for the increase in the number of black fungus.

He said that this fungal infection is commonly seen in patients who have recovered from corona but are experiencing problems such as diabetes, kidney or heart failure or cancer. In addition, patients with corona with a weakened immunity system are at greater risk of this fatal infection.

What is mucoramycosis

This disease was earlier called Zygomycosis. It is a type of fungal infection. This infection usually starts from the nose. Which slowly spreads to the eyes. Treatment is necessary as soon as infection spreads. If you have swelling or more pain in your nose, blurred eyes, then you should go to the doctor immediately.

This infection usually affects the sinuses, brain, or lungs and can therefore be quite common in people suffering from or recovering from COVID-19.

What is the relationship between mucoramycosis and corona

SARS-COV-2 virus targets the body's immune system. In both these situations, the immune system is affected. According to doctors, many corona patients are given strong medications ranging from antivirals to steroids.

Because of this, the rate of the immune system has decreased in individuals suffering from or recovering from the deadly virus. Additionally, steroids can also affect blood glucose levels, especially in those who are already suffering from diabetes. These drugs in turn promote the development of fungal infections.

What are the symptoms associated with mucoramycosis?

Mucoramycosis can usually affect parts such as the nose, eyes, brain, and sinuses. Its symptoms include swelling, pain and numbness in the face, abnormal (bloody or dark-brown) discharge from the nose, swollen eyes, congestion in the nose or sinus, black sores on the upper part of the nose or mouth. Apart from this, its patients may feel symptoms like fever, cough, chest pain and shortness of breath.

Treatment of mucomycosis

Its patients should seek help from doctors. Antifungal drugs can treat it. Take any medicine on the advice of doctors or a specialist. Surgery may be necessary to remove dead tissue in severe cases.
