Take bath early in the morning and wear clean clothes. Wearing red colored clothes is auspicious on this day. While doing puja, the mouth should be kept in the east or north direction. After this, offer incense-lamp and modak to Lord Ganesha. During the puja, chant Om Ganeshya Namah and Om Ganapate Namah. Then offer Lord Ganesha the offerings of sesame seeds. After reading the story in the evening, open the fast by seeing the arghya on the moon. On this day, there is special importance of doing charity.
