Team India's biggest fourth innings in Tests after 41 years, breaks Australia's dream

The match between India and Australia has been drawn on the fifth and final day of the Sydney Test.
Team India played 131 overs against Australia in the fourth innings of the Sydney Test. Who has done this feat in Test cricket after 41 years. The Indian team had earlier played 131 overs in the fourth innings of a drawn match against Pakistan in 1980.

India scored 334 for 5 in the second innings

Rohit Sharma gave a good start to the Indian team against Australia's 407-run target. After this, Rishabh Pant and Cheteshwar Pujara raised India's hopes of victory. Pujara and Rishabh Pant put together a 148-run partnership. But Rishabh Pant missed his third Test century by just 3 runs. Pujara was bowled by Hazelwood for 77. This was followed by a draw between Hanuma Vihari and Ravichandran Ashwin. India made 334 for 5 in the second innings and drew the match.

A new record could have been set if he had won

Team India missed out on their historic win against Australia in the Sydney Test. If Team India had won the match, it could have set a new record by completing the highest target of 407 in the fourth innings of its Test cricket history. Earlier, on April 12, 1976, India set a record of chasing the biggest target in the fourth innings. Which remained intact for 27 years. India made history in the Port of Spain Test by scoring 406/4 over a target chase of 403.

  • West Indies v Australia, 418/7, Target 418, St. John's 2003
  • South Africa v Australia 414/4, Target 415, Perth 2008
  • India v West Indies, 406/4, Target 403 Port of Spain, 1976

Australia's weight at the Sydney ground is heavy, India has won only 1 match so far

The Indian team's record in Sydney has not been good. India have played 13 Tests at the ground so far. Out of which only 1 match has been won. While the Kangaroos have had the upper hand in 5 Test matches. Apart from this 7 Test matches were drawn. The last time India won a Test match was 2-1 against Australia in 2018-19.
