Post Office Savings Account: Rules changed before the new year, if not followed, the account will be closed


If you have a savings account at the post office, this news is very important for you. 
Because the post office has changed the rules pertaining to the account. According to information released by the Post Office, it is now mandatory for customers to have a balance of at least Rs 500 in a savings account. If you do not maintain the minimum balance, you will have to pay a maintenance charge of Rs. 100 (inclusive of GST). This amount will be deducted from your account. If the bank account becomes zero then the account will be closed automatically.

Rule of opening an account at the post office

  • Only one savings account can be opened in a post office. Currently, the annual interest rate on a Post Office Savings Account is 4 percent.
  • It can be opened as a single or joint account.
  • In the name of a minor over the age of 10, can open for a mentally weak person.

  • You get a check-ATM facility in a post office savings account.
  • Nomination facility to Post Office Account Holder, Transfer facility from one Post Office to another Post Office, Intra Operable NetBanking / Mobile Banking Facility, Online Funds Transfer between Post Office Savings Account.
  • In order to keep the account active, it is necessary to deposit or withdraw at least once in 3 financial years.

Post Office Internet Banking

First login to India Post Internet Banking. Then go to Navigated Accounts option then click on Balance and Transaction Information. Then go to Savings Account. Then click on My Transactions option. And finally download the statement.

Through mobile banking

  • In this process, first you have to log-in to India Post Mobile Banking application. Then click on Account Options. After this, you have to click on Savings Account. Then click on the Transaction History option.
  • Finally you can download your statement. Questions can be asked by phone or email
