IPL 2020: Sunrisers Hyderabad Beat Chennai Super Kings By 7 Runs

Despite Ravindra Jadeja's half-century and skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni's combative batting, Chennai Super Kings have suffered a seven-run defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
This is Chennai's third consecutive defeat in the 13th season of the IPL T20 cricket tournament. Batting first after winning the toss, Hyderabad set a target of 165 against Chennai. In response, Dhoni and Jadeja fought back after a poor start but Chennai could only manage 157 for five in 20 overs. Earlier for Hyderabad, Priyam Garg scored a superb unbeaten half-century which helped the team to a strong score.

Chennai had a poor start as they reached the target of 165 in the match played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The team lost its top four wickets for 42 runs. Except for opener Faf du Plessis, no double-digit score was recorded. Du Plessis scored 22 off 19 balls. While his fellow opener Shane Watson scored a run to collect the pavilion. Ambati Rayudu was dismissed for eight and Kedar Jadhav for three.

However, later captain Dhoni along with Ravindra Jadeja tried to handle the baji. Jadeja hit a half-century, batting aggressively. But it was a big blow to Chennai as he was out at the crucial moment. Jadeja and Dhoni shared a 72-run stand. Jadeja hit 50 off 35 balls with five fours and two sixes. Dhoni tried to lead the team to victory but failed. Dhoni played an unbeaten 47 off 36 balls with four fours and a six. For Hyderabad, Natarajan had two wickets and Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Abdul Samad had one wicket each.

Hyderabad, who had earlier batted first, were hit in the first over. Johnny Bairstow was out without opening an account. However, the pair of openers David Warner and Manish Pandey later took over. The pair had a 46-run partnership. Warner was dismissed for 28 off 29 balls with the help of three fours. While Pandey scored 29 off 21 balls which included five fours.

Ken Williamson was run out for nine. However, Priyam Garg's batting remained the center of attraction. He batted aggressively and was instrumental in strengthening the team's score. Garg hit an unbeaten 51 off 26 balls with the help of six fours and a six. While Abhishek Sharma contributed 31 runs off 24 balls. For Chennai, Deepak Chahar took two wickets and Shardul Thakur and Piyush Chawla took one wicket each.
