Travelling at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport will soon become easier for domestic and international passengers. The airport's manager company Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) is going to launch a service that will make it easier for passengers to transit between Terminal-1 (domestic) and Terminal-3 (international).

Now, passengers whose luggage has already been checked in (to be placed in the flight's luggage area) will not have to run around with their luggage between T1 and T3 to catch a connecting flight, transit or change flights. It will automatically be transferred from one flight to another.

Dial is planning to transfer the luggage of passengers internally. However, the company is yet to get approval from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) for this service.

These people will get this service first

Officials aware of the matter say that a decision will be taken soon. Initially, this service will be available to passengers boarding domestic to international flights, i.e. those taking flights from T1 to T3. At the same time, for passengers coming from international flights, i.e. from Terminal-3 to Terminal-1, luggage will also be transferred inside. International flights at Delhi Airport operate from Terminal-3. Once the new system is implemented, passengers will not have to carry their luggage while taking a 'connecting flight' from Terminal-3.

This is the government's plan for the whole country

The government has been trying to develop India as a transit hub for a long time. The new Jewar airport being built in Noida is being developed in this way. In such a situation, the government is now focusing on increasing the number of custom officers at most of the international airports of the country, making check-in single time and increasing other passenger facilities.
