He was having issues with dates, due to which Hrishikesh Mukherjee started shooting the film with Amitabh and what happened was that while the film was being made, more scenes of Big B were seen while Rajesh Khanna appeared only as a special appearance.

Due to this, the distributors refused to buy the film. But then everyone was forced to change their decision. Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan's Zanjeer movie was released. This film made him a star overnight and distributors lined up to buy his movie.

Amitabh Bachchan was not the first choice for Deewar

When Yash Chopra saw the script of the film Deewar, he immediately agreed to make this movie. According to reports, Yash Chopra wanted to cast Rajesh Khanna in this film because he had worked with Rajesh Khanna in Daag before this. But Kaka had a line of films. He was having a date issue. Due to this, he was not able to give dates to the film Deewar.

Due to Rajesh Khanna's inability to give dates for the movie, Salim-Javed suggested Amitabh Bachchan's name. After this, Yash Chopra gave Big B the role of Vijay Verma in Deewar.
