T20 World Cup 2024: Bowlers and chase shine in West Indies' victory, beat Papua New Guinea by 5 wickets in a thrilling match

 


In the second match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, West Indies defeated Papua New Guinea by 5 wickets with the help of excellent bowling and Roston Chase's excellent batting. With this, West Indies started the tournament with a win. At the same time, Papua New Guinea showed a great performance. 

Papua New Guinea batted first and scored 136 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Sese Bau scored the most runs from the team. He scored a half-century of 50 runs in 43 balls with the help of 6 fours and a six. He is the second batsman from Papua New Guinea to score a half-century in the T20 World Cup. Apart from him, Kiplin Doriga scored an unbeaten 27 runs in 18 balls with the help of 3 fours. Captain Assad Vala scored 21 runs in 22 balls with the help of 2 fours and a six. Andre Russell and Alzari Joseph took the maximum 2-2 wickets from West Indies. Akeel Hosein, Romario Shepherd and Gudakesh Moti managed to take one wicket each. 

West Indies team, chasing the target, won the match by scoring 137 runs in 19 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Roston Chase scored the highest 42(27)* runs from the team's bat. In his innings, he hit 4 fours and 2 sixes. Brandon King scored 34 runs in 29 balls with the help of 7 fours. Nicholas Pooran scored 27 runs in 27 balls with the help of 1 four and 2 sixes. Andre Russell remained unbeaten by scoring 15 runs in 9 balls with the help of 1 six. Captain Asad took the maximum 2 wickets from Papua New Guinea's side. Eli Nao, Chad Soper and John Carico took one wicket each.
