"South Africa just..." from winning big tournaments - Aiden Markram's big statement before the T20 World Cup, said an important thing about the trophy drought

South Africa Cricket Team: South Africa is considered a strong team but they have not won any ICC tournament for a long time and due to this they are often criticized. South Africa is also included in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 and before the start of the tournament, team captain Aiden Markram has made a big statement about ending the streak of not winning big tournaments. Markram believes that if South Africa wins the World Cup trophy once, then it can win many big tournaments consecutively.

South Africa won the only ICC tournament in the form of Champions Trophy in 1998. However, the team has not won the ODI or T20 World Cup even once. The Proteas have reached the semi-finals many times but have had to face disappointment every time.

Ahead of the start of the T20 World Cup 2024, Proteas captain Aiden Markram expressed confidence in his players to finally end their World Cup drought. The 29-year-old also said that if they are able to win, they can potentially build on their success and add more trophies to their cabinet.

Aiden Markram said his team is capable of winning the trophy

South African captain Markram praised his team and said that the group of players is capable of winning the trophy. During the press conference, he said, I definitely think we have what it takes and this is a World Cup, it is a really high level of cricket. I think this group has been together for quite a few years now. We have shown in the last few years that we are capable of beating the best teams in the world. So, I quietly believe that this team has everything to win a World Cup. I think once we have a successful one, potentially a lot more can follow after that.

Let us tell you that South Africa has been placed in Group D along with Nepal, Netherlands, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the tournament. At the same time, the Proteas team will start its campaign against Sri Lanka in New York on June 3.
