Many of these accused, who have been in jail for years after their verdict, have appealed to the higher courts to reduce their sentence. One such case was in which the Mavelikkara Additional Sessions Court sentenced 15 people to death at once. The case was of the murder of BJP leader Ranjeet Srinivasan. In the year 2021, Srinivasan was killed in front of his mother, wife and child. This was the first time that so many people were sentenced to death at once. But these people are still waiting for their death sentence.

How many prisoners where?

Similarly, in the case of murder of an old woman living alone in Neyyattinkara, mother, son and friend were sentenced to death, but they too are currently waiting. These are such cases which shook the state. But sadly, despite such a brutal crime, these criminals are still alive. About 25 death row accused are lodged in Poojappura Central Jail, while there are four prisoners in Kannur Central Jail and six in Viyyur Central Jail. It is estimated that there are three people in Viyyur High Security Jail and one prisoner in Thiruvananthapuram Women's Jail who are still waiting for their death sentence.
