Shree Kalaram Mandir: Ram ji killed Khar and Dushan here, after which Sita was abducted

Shree Kalaram Mandir: It is believed that Lord Rama spent most of his 14 years of exile in Panchavati. It was at this place that Lord Rama lived with Mother Sita and brother Lakshman in a hut in the forest. Many mythological stories are popular about this place. At present, this place is known as the city of Nashik. This is the same place where Lord Rama killed demons like Khar and Dushan, after which Ravana abducted Mother Sita from here. Today, a grand temple of Lord Rama is situated here, whose name is Kalaram Temple.

Specialty of Kalaram Temple

Sri Kalaram Temple located in Panchavati is a center of religious faith. This temple is built of black stones. A black idol of Lord Rama is installed in Kalaram Temple. The idols of Mother Sita, Laxman Ji and Hanuman Ji are installed in the temple. Panchavati has been described beautifully in the Aranyakand of Valmiki Ramayana. Apart from this, it is also mentioned in some other texts that during the exile, Sri Ram, Sita and Laxman started living in a hut in Panchavati area. The entire area of Panchavati is a picturesque place on the banks of the Godavari River.

Killing of Khar and Dushan

The battle between Ram and Khar-Dushan mentioned in the Ramayana was fought at this place. Khar and Dushan were the brothers of Lankan king Ravana. It was here that Laxman had cut off Shurpanakha's nose, to take revenge for which Khar and Dushan fought with Lord Rama in which both the brothers of Ravana were killed by Ram ji. After this, when Mother Sita was abducted, Ram met the giant vulture Jatayu on the way to Panchavati.

This legend is famous

According to religious beliefs, another story related to the temple is popular. When Lord Rama came to Panchvati during his 14 years of exile, the sages prayed to him to free them from the wrath of demons. Then Lord Rama accepted their prayers, took a black form and freed them from those demons. Even today, black colored idols of Shri Ram, Mata Sita, Laxman ji and Hanuman ji are present in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
