The tradition of celebrating Bada Mangal started from Lucknow

In Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, the tradition of celebrating Bada Mangal is observed with great enthusiasm, because it is believed that the celebration of Bada Mangal as a festival started from here. There is also a story about this, according to which, the celebration of Bada Mangal is related to the ancient Hanuman temple located in Aliganj of Lucknow district of Uttar Pradesh.

It is said that 400 years ago, the health of the son of Nawab Mohammad Ali Shah of Awadh had deteriorated a lot. Even after a lot of treatment, there was no improvement in his health. Then some people advised the Begum of Nawab Mohammad Wajid Ali Shah to pray at the ancient Hanuman temple of Aliganj on the Tuesday of the month of Jyeshtha. The Begum followed their advice and did the same and with the blessings of Hanuman ji, her son's health got completely cured.

Then Mohammad Ali Shah was pleased and got that Hanuman temple repaired. The repair work of the temple was completed in the month of Jyeshtha. After this, the Nawab offered jaggery and coriander to Hanuman ji and distributed that prasad among the people. Since then, the festival of Bada Mangal started being celebrated every year. On this special occasion, many devotees come to the ancient Hanuman temple to worship and have darshan of Bajrangbali.
