Know the complete details of election ink
We are giving you the complete details of the ink that is applied on your finger during elections. In any election, applying ink on your index finger directly means that you have cast your vote. The ink that is applied on your finger is such that its mark cannot be erased. Initially it appears purple in colour, but with the passage of time it turns black. This ink is known as indelible ink. One advantage of applying ink is that it shows that this person has voted. The second advantage is that that person cannot cast his vote again. Not only in India, but in many countries of the world, it is mandatory to mark with ink after voting. The special thing is that this ink goes to most of the countries of the world from India only.
Where is this ink made?
Now this question must be arising in your mind that where is this ink made? This indelible ink is made at two places in India - Rayudu Laboratory in Hyderabad, Telangana and Mysore Paints and Varnish Limited Company in Mysore, Karnataka. The Election Commission of India uses the ink made in Mysore Paints and Varnish Limited while the ink made in Rayudu Laboratory is sent to other countries of the world. This ink is used in about 90 countries of the world. Mysore Paints and Varnish Limited Company also supplies ink to 30 of these countries. In the initial days, this ink was exported by filling it in small bottles.

According to Shashank Rayudu, CEO of Rayudu Laboratory, due to the latest technology, markers made of this indelible ink are being exported since 2014. This ink is also used in the Pulse Polio Program. The children who are vaccinated are also marked with this ink. During elections, this purple ink is applied on the index finger of the left hand.
Election ink contains 10 to 18 percent silver nitrate chemical. When the election officer applies it on the finger, it reacts with the salt present in our body and forms silver chloride. Since silver chloride does not dissolve in water, it remains attached to our skin. It makes its mark within a second of being applied on the finger and dries completely within 40 seconds. The special thing is that its color turns black after coming in contact with water. No matter how much soap, powder or oil you rub it with, it will not go away. Its mark cannot be removed from the skin for at least 72 hours.
The Election Commission of India orders lakhs of bottles of ink during every election. According to the Election Commission, 21 lakh bottles of ink were ordered during the 2014 general elections, which increased to 26 lakh in the 2019 general elections. It has been in use since the 1960s. According to an order issued by the Election Commission in March 2015, the ink will be applied with a brush from the tip of the nail of the index finger of the left hand to below the first joint. The brush with which this ink is applied is also manufactured by Mysore Paints and Varnish Limited.
