Foreign deal of 114 fighter aircraft canceled, Defense Ministry will now purchase from this government company

The purchase of 114 multi-role fighter aircraft for the IAF from a foreign company has been cancelled. Now these fighter aircraft will be purchased from the country's government company only. CCS approval of Rs 50,000 crore has been given for this.

The Defense Ministry has canceled the purchase of 114 multi-role fighter aircraft for the IAF from a foreign company. Now this purchase will be from the government company only. Actually, the Defense Ministry has canceled the RFI for the fighter aircraft deal. Instead of importing foreign fighter jets, the Air Force will support the ORCA/TEDBF project of ADA-HAL. According to information received from sources, CCS approval of Rs 50,000 crore has been given for this project.

Make in India will get a boost

This procurement will give a big boost to 'Make in India' as the aircraft will be indigenously designed, developed and manufactured with the participation of several local vendors apart from HAL. With most of the equipment and systems being sourced from indigenous manufacturers, these fighters The aircraft will promote the Self-reliant India scheme in line with the Make in India initiative of the government.

This was the plan earlier

According to government sources, recently, the Indian Air Force held a meeting with foreign vendors and asked them about how to execute the Make in India project. According to the plan, after importing the initial 18 aircraft, the next 36 fighter jets were planned to be manufactured in the country. The price of these fighter jets will be in both foreign and Indian currency.

The last 60 fighter jets will be the responsibility of the Indian partner. For which the government was going to make payment only in Indian currency. The reason behind this is that this step will help the vendors involved in the project to get more than 60% 'Make-in-India' material.
