Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala's mother Charan Kaur has given birth to a child at the age of 58. For this he took the help of IVF technique. Controversy in this matter has started since the birth of the child. The Union Health Ministry has sought answers from the Punjab government and Moosewala's mother. A report has been sought regarding the use of IVF technique at the age of 58. Amidst this controversy, it is important for you to know what is the right age to undergo IVF in India? Is there any registration before doing IVF and do IVF centers give all the information about it to infertile couples or not? Let us know about this in details.

There are different laws regarding IVF in every country. Laws have been made regarding this in India. There was a change in the rules regarding IVF in the year 2021. The Assisted Reproductive Technology Regulation Act was made in this regard. According to this, women in India can become mothers through IVF till the age of 50 years. In men it is 55 years. However, it is a big question whether the government rules are followed in all private IVF centers or not? Before knowing the answer to this question, let us know whether childless couples have to register on any government portal for IVF?

Is registration required for IVF?

IVF specialist Dr Nupur Gupta tells that no registration is required on the government portal before undergoing IVF. If a couple is struggling with the problem of infertility then they can take the help of IVF. But before undergoing IVF, many types of information are given to the couple. Forms are also filled for this.

Gynecologist Dr Saloni Chadha says that whenever a couple comes for IVF, they are made to sign a consent form. In this form it is written that the couple is undergoing IVF of their own free will. Whether there is any dangerous disease in the woman's body and whether the age of the couple is as per the law of Assisted Reproductive Technology Regulation Act 2021 or not, if the couple does not meet any of these parameters then IVF is not done.

Why is there no rule for IVF after 50?

Dr. Saloni says that there is a rule not to undergo IVF for women above 50 years of age. A major reason for making this rule is that menopause occurs in most women after the age of 50 years. In such a situation, eggs are almost exhausted for producing children. In such a situation, another woman's egg is taken. In many cases the child is from another woman's egg.

After the age of 50, women are also at risk of many diseases. During this period, women also suffer from diabetes and BP problems. In such a situation, there can be many side effects of undergoing IVF. Which can put the woman's life at risk.

What rules do IVF centers follow?

A doctor in Delhi, on the condition of anonymity, said that there is no law for IVF centers in India. In many cases, IVF is also done for women above 50 years of age. It is written on the websites of many IVF centers that there is 100 percent guarantee of having a child through IVF. Whereas this does not happen.

The success rate of having a child through IVF is only 30 to 40 percent. But India also has the highest number of cases of infertility, hence the number of people undergoing IVF here is increasing rapidly. On the other hand, there is no rule for IVF registration, so the number of people getting it done is increasing rapidly. But undergoing IVF after the age of 50 is legally wrong. If a couple does this then it is considered against the law.

What are the government rules

ICMR has set rules regarding IVF in its ART-Bill 2021. It has been told that childless women between 21 to 50 years of age can take the help of this technique. Every IVF center requires a childless woman to fill complete details. In this, all the work till issuing discharge paper with correct age information should be legal. The rule also states that how many times a woman can resort to IVF in her life. This information should also be given.

How is IVF done?

Dr. Saloni tells that many types of tests are done for both men and women for IVF. After the test report comes, further procedure is started. For this, first of all the man's semen is brought to the lab for testing and bad sperms are separated from it. After this, the eggs are taken out from the woman's body through injection and they are kept frozen. These eggs are fertilized with good semen in a special way in the lab.

The embryo prepared from this fertilization is transferred into the woman's uterus with the help of a catheter. After a few weeks, women are called for test. It is seen how the fetus is being prepared in the womb. For its good growth, pregnancy tips are given to women.
