What is triglycerides in lipid profile test? Its increase can also lead to heart attack?

When you get a lipid profile test done to check your heart, apart from cholesterol, triglycerides are also detected in it, but most people do not know what these triglycerides are and how their increase can be dangerous.

Heart attack cases have been increasing in India for the last few years. Poor eating habits, impaired lifestyle and Covid virus are the major reasons for the increase in heart diseases. Since heart diseases are increasing, people are also becoming aware about it. Every three to four months, some people get lipid profile test done to check their heart. Cholesterol level is detected in this. If cholesterol is low then it is believed that the risk of heart disease is also less, but apart from cholesterol, triglycerides are also detected in the lipid profile test, but most people ignore it. Therefore, if you get your lipid test done now, apart from cholesterol, keep an eye on triglycerides also.

Let us first tell you what these triglycerides are. Let us understand this from Dr. Ajit Jain, Associate Professor in the Department of Cardiology at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital. Dr. Jain explains that one form of fat in our body is also called triglycerides. This is revealed in the lipid profile test. Nowadays, its level is found increased in many people. The level of triglycerides increases due to wrong eating habits and in some cases due to any infection in the liver.

Are high triglycerides dangerous?

In this regard, Dr. Jain says that like cholesterol, increase in triglycerides is also a sign of danger. If its level exceeds 200 then you need to take care of your health. In some cases it is also shown that cholesterol is normal, but triglycerides are increased. In such a situation, do not think that there will be no risk, if only triglycerides are increased then there is a risk of heart disease. Therefore, if the level of triglycerides has exceeded 200, then definitely consult a doctor. This can be controlled with good diet and exercise.

How to take care of health

Include proteins and vitamins in your diet.

Avoid eating processed meat and high fat items

Exercise for at least half an hour every day
