People with high BP are at greater risk of heart attack in winter, know the prevention methods from the doctor

The winter season is as pleasant as it is an increaser of diseases. In winter, the problems of high blood pressure patients increase the most. According to doctors, BP patients should take special care of themselves in winter, otherwise the risk of heart attack increases. Let us know how.

Even in the third week of January, the harshness of winter continues and the morning and evening are colder than the day, due to which the temperature is falling by 5 degrees, in such a situation many problems increase in which high BP patients need to take special care. Because cases of heart attacks increase due to increase in BP in winter, this is the reason why more heart attacks are recorded in winter than in summer.

Why does blood pressure increase?

Dr. Ajit Jain, Associate Professor in the Department of Cardiology at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, says that the winter season is troublesome for people who have chronic diseases like blood pressure because blood pressure increases rapidly due to cold and those who already have high blood pressure. He has a problem of BP and faces a lot of problems. If we talk about the reasons for increase in BP, then according to Dr. Jain there are two reasons for it.

The first reason is the shrinkage of veins and arteries due to cold. Peripheral is the part which remains open in our body like the toes of hands and feet and our head. In such a situation, due to falling temperature, the veins of these parts shrink, due to which the heart has to work harder to pump blood from these parts, which becomes the reason for increasing blood pressure.

less sweating

Talking about the second reason, Dr. Jain explains that in summer, excess water and salt comes out of our body in the form of sweat, but due to lack of sweating in winter, the retention of water and salt in the body increases, which leads to dehydration. Because of this, blood has to be pumped in greater volume during the day. Due to which blood pressure increases and this persistent high BP increases the risk of heart attack.

prevention methods

According to Dr. Jain, to prevent this, it is very important to protect the peripheral parts from cold to keep the temperature normal. For this, high BP patients should wear socks, gloves and caps in winter so that the body temperature remains normal and the veins do not shrink too much. .

Secondly, as soon as winter arrives, high BP patients should start taking medicines to pass urine so that excess water and salt keep coming out of the body along with urine and as summer approaches, this medicine should be reduced and later stopped.

With these two protections, you can reduce your high BP as well as the risk of heart attack.
