Year Ender 2023: From Pujara to Babar, this year was bad for these greats

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Shubman Gill are the star players of the Indian cricket team, whose names kept echoing throughout the year. These players consistently performed well for Team India throughout the year and contributed a lot to the success of Team India. Then there were some names for whom this year was not good at all and they struggled to make a place in the team. The path of returning to the team has become difficult for some of them, while some will be hoping to force the selectors with a strong performance.

Cheteshwar Pujara

Veteran batsman Cheteshwar Pujara, who was the backbone of Team India's batting in Test cricket for a long time, has finally been cut from the team. Pujara, who was continuously failing for the last 3-4 years, returned to the team only last year and scored a brilliant century in Bangladesh. He failed in the home Test series against Australia and then in the World Test Championship final. This year he could score only 181 runs in 5 tests and due to this he was out of the team. Now his comeback looks difficult.

Umesh Yadav

This legendary fast bowler of Team India got only a few opportunities in the last 5 years. However, whenever he got a chance, he proved to be effective. Umesh, who played more Tests on Indian pitches, used to show his strength but this year he got only 5 wickets in 3 Tests against Australia and the result was that he could not play any more Test after this. With the arrival of new bowlers, their comeback is also difficult.

Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal, who was the main spinner of Team India till about 2 years ago, gradually fell out of the 'scheme of things' i.e. the plan of the selectors. In the year of ODI World Cup, he got to play only 2 ODI matches, in which only 3 wickets came in his bag. This year he was included in 9 T20 matches and here too he could take only 9 wickets. The result was that now he does not seem to be getting a place for the T20 World Cup next year. He is being included in the ODI series in the year of T20 World Cup.

Babar Azam

This year was full of ups and downs for Pakistan captain Babar Azam. His problems had increased even before the failure in the World Cup 2023. He was failing in the Asia Cup. Before that, in the 3 test matches, he could score only 127 runs in 3 matches with his bat. In ODI, he definitely scored 1065 runs in 24 innings, but in this too, his failure on important occasions for the team in the World Cup became a reason for criticism. Besides, he also had to leave the captaincy after the World Cup.

joss buttler

This year was also not good for England's ODI and T20 captain Jos Buttler. Under his captaincy, not only did the team fail to defend the World Cup title, but he also flopped badly with the bat. Even before the World Cup, Butler's performance was good but in the World Cup and after that, he could not show anything amazing. Scored 747 runs in 22 innings of ODI this year. Scored 164 runs in 5 T20 innings at a strike rate of 151.
