How did so many Nepalese die in the Russia-Ukraine war, what does Nepal's government want now?

Meanwhile, six Nepali citizens serving in the Russian army have been killed in the war with Ukraine. Nepalese government gave this information on Monday. Along with this, the government has requested Russia not to recruit citizens of Nepal in its army.

What did the Nepalese government say?

Nepal's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that six Nepali citizens serving in the Russian army have been killed in the war with Ukraine. The deceased have been identified as Pritam Karki of Syangja, Ganga Raj Moktan of Ilam, Raj Kumar Karki of Dolakha, Rupak Karki of Kapilvastu, Diwan Rai of Kaski and Sandeep Thapaliya of Gorkha. The statement said that the ministry has requested Russia to repatriate the bodies of Nepalese killed in the war and compensate the families of the victims. Nepal has also requested Russia not to recruit its citizens into the Russian Army and if any Nepali citizen has been recruited, then send them back home immediately.

Attempt to release Nepali hostage

The Nepalese ministry said diplomatic efforts are underway to release a Nepali soldier who has been taken hostage by Ukraine while fighting for the Russian army. It is believed that about 200 Nepalese are currently serving as soldiers in the Russian army, despite the government's request not to risk their lives. Some Nepalese youth are also working in the Ukrainian army but their exact number is not known.

How did Nepali youth reach Russia?

According to Kathmandu Post, several videos had surfaced on social media, in which Nepalese youth were shown serving in the armies of Russia and Ukraine. It was claimed in the video that Nepali youth can earn up to Rs 4,00,000 every month. Actually, Nepali Army has approved recruitment of Nepalese citizens in Indian and British Army only because of bilateral agreements.
