Faf du Plessis hints at return to international cricket, eyes on 2024 T20 World Cup

Former South African captain Faf du Plessis has been out of the team for many years but now he may return soon. He himself has indicated this. The T20 World Cup (T20 World Cup 2024) is to be held in West Indies and America next year and keeping this tournament in mind, talks were held recently between the 39-year-old player and the South Africa management.

Faf du Plessis last played a T20I match for South Africa in 2020, while he has not played international cricket since 2021. However, he has been a consistent part of franchise cricket around the world and has managed to do well consistently. He is also the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL.

Recently, while announcing the squad for the upcoming tour against India, South Africa's limited overs coach Rob Walter had hinted that the door was not closed for Du Plessis' return. Now the former captain also talked about this.

The 39-year-old told the Abu Dhabi T10 League that he is confident he can make a comeback into the South Africa team and he has been talking about it for the last few years. Du Plessis said that this was a topic he had discussed with Walter. They said,

I believe that I can make a comeback in international cricket also. We have been talking about this for the last few years. It is just to find out the balance of next year's T20 World Cup. Certainly we have talked to the new coach about this.

Faf du Plessis has not got a place for the upcoming T20I series against India. In such a situation, it remains to be seen which series will be chosen for his return once the equation is formed.
