Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is going to remain closed for 6 hours today i.e. Tuesday. The reason for which is said to be maintenance work. The timing of closure of the airport is from 11 am to 5 pm. Maintenance work will be done on two runways at Mumbai Airport. No aircraft will fly during this period. According to the information, after monsoon, both the runways of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport – RWY 09/27 and RWY 14/32 will be closed from 11 am to 5 pm on 17th October i.e. today. According to the airport, they had informed the airline and other concerned people about this work 6 months in advance.

Maintenance work is done every year

In fact, this maintenance has to be done every year after monsoon. This maintenance work also includes inspection of the runway surface along with the wear and tear that has occurred in the last six months. So that the aircraft can takeoff and land properly. Also, all the passengers can remain safe. The airport had carried out maintenance and repair work on both the runways on May 2 this year before the monsoon. Officials said the primary purpose of the temporary closure is for repairs and maintenance. Which are essential to maintain the airport infrastructure to the highest standards.

Asked for support from passengers

In the recent month, domestic air traffic at Mumbai International Airport reached 108 percent of the pre-pandemic level of August 2019. More than 4.32 million passengers traveled at the airport. In which there is an increase of 32 percent year-on-year. International air traffic has also seen an increase of 33 percent, in which more than 1.1 million passengers traveled. During the same period, the airport handled a total of 20,711 domestic flights and 6,960 international air traffic movements.
