According to Hindu beliefs, Monday is considered the most auspicious day for worshiping Lord Shiva. On this day, if a seeker worships the incorporeal form of Lord Shiva i.e. Shivling by following the rules and regulations, then the full blessings of Mahadev, the God of Gods, are showered on him. It is believed that on worshiping Shivling all the wishes of the seeker are fulfilled in the blink of an eye, but keep in mind that worship of Shivling also has its own rule. Never offer Ganga water in a plastic vessel even by mistake.

If you want to worship Shivalinga, then first of all take water in a copper pot and offer it to the right side of Jalhari, which is considered to be the place of Lord Ganesha. After this, offer water on the left side which is considered to be the place of Lord Kartikeya. After this, water is offered in the middle of Jalhari, which is considered to be the place of Ashok Sundari, the daughter of Lord Shiva. After this, offer water in the circular part of Jalhari which is considered to be the place of Mother Parvati. Last but not least, offer water slowly to the Shivalinga.

According to Hindu belief, one should never offer water to Shivalinga while standing. It is considered auspicious to always sit on Shivling and offer water slowly. Never offer sharp water to Lord Shiva.

According to Hindu belief, puja items should never be kept in the water tank of Shivalinga nor should the water tank be touched while doing parikrama. According to Hindu belief, Shivling should always be circled half way.

According to Hindu belief, water should never be offered on Shivling facing east, because according to Sanatan tradition, it is considered to be the main entrance of Lord Shiva. According to Hindu belief, water should always be offered to Shivling facing north.
