Praising the discussion on the Women's Reservation Bill, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, 132 members in both the Houses had a very meaningful discussion. Women will get the benefit of reservation in 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

The Women's Reservation Bill has been passed by both the Houses, now the President's approval is awaited. However, the Central Government has already said that census and delimitation will take place only after the Lok Sabha elections 2024. In such a situation, the benefit of women's reservation will be available in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Let us tell you that the allocation of 543 seats in the Lok Sabha has been done on the basis of 10 year census. Now the new census is expected to be completed in 2026. This time the Delimitation Commission has decided to use pro rata to decide the seats in South Indian states.

Know what pro rata?

Pro Rata is a mathematical formula used to determine representation of an area based on its population. According to this formula, as per the population of the area, its seats will also be more accordingly. In such a situation, if the Delimitation Commission allots seats on the basis of census, then the states of South India will have to bear the loss directly. In fact, the states of South India are much less than the states of North India in terms of population. This is why to address the concerns of South Indian states, the Delimitation Commission has decided to use pro rata.

Understand pro rata formula in simple language

Number of seats = (area population / total population) * total number of seats

For example, the population of a state is 10 crores and the population of India is 100 crores. There are 543 seats in the Lok Sabha, so that state should get 54.3 seats. Because this figure has to be completed, there will be 54 seats. Pro rata is considered the most appropriate system for delimitation as it ensures that all areas are represented in proportion to their population.

Nirmala Sitharaman praised Narasimha Rao

During the discussion in Rajya Sabha, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that BJP does not do any kind of politics in the matter of women. During the discussion on the Women's Reservation Bill, he remembered former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao and praised him. He said that the credit for bringing 33 percent reservation in Panchayat Raj completely goes to the Rao government. He said that 33 percent reservation in Panchayats has seen very good results at the ground level. Looking at the Panchayats, we can say that the draft of this bill has been prepared very thoughtfully. He said that this bill was awaited for a long time. He said that Lok Sabha and Assembly seats can be reserved for women only after the delimitation process is completed after the census. He said that this law will remain effective for fifteen years.
