Who got the posting as India's first woman High Commissioner to Pakistan? Know the answer to every question

This is the first time after independence that a woman officer of the Indian Foreign Service has been given the command of Pakistan. The previous High Commissioner was recalled after the tension that arose after the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir.

The Government of India has deputed Geetika Srivastava, a woman of the Ministry of External Affairs, as the High Commissioner in charge in Pakistan. This is the first time after independence that a woman officer of the Indian Foreign Service has been given the command of Pakistan. Earlier, women officers had been posted there but this is the first time that this has happened on a senior position. This deployment is important in many cases, hence you may come across questions related to it in competitive examinations.

As of now, Dr. M. Suresh Kumar is on the post of Indian High Commissioner in charge in Pakistan. With Geetika joining, she is likely to get a new responsibility. Geetika will work on the new post till a High Commissioner is posted. However, no one knows when this deployment will happen.

How was the previous High Commissioner removed?

The last full-time High Commissioner in Islamabad, Ajay Bisaria, remained posted, who was recalled in 2019 after tensions arose after the abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. Due to diplomatic reasons, Pakistan has also posted the High Commissioner in charge in India after that. At present, Saad Ahmed Waraich is posted as High Commissioner in charge of Pakistan in Delhi.

Who is Geetika Srivastava?

Geetika Srivastava is a 2005 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service. He is currently posted as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. He has the charge of the Indo-Pacific Division. He worked in China from 2007 to 2009. Originally a resident of Uttar Pradesh, Geetika has also worked in the Regional Passport Office in Kolkata.

She has also served as Director of the Indian Ocean Region in the Ministry of External Affairs. Geetika Srivastava will be the 23rd chief to be posted in Pakistan but she has also become the first woman officer to whom the central government has given this challenging task.
