Had left home fearing father's beating

Jairam Banan was born in Udpi, Karnataka. He was very afraid of his father. At the age of 13, when he failed, he ran away from home fearing beatings at the hands of his father. In the year 1967, he ran away from home and went straight to Mumbai. There he did the work of washing dishes in an acquaintance's restaurant. In return, he used to get Rs 18 a month. He worked whole heartedly here. After 6 years, he first became a waiter and then after that became the manager.

Chose delhi for business

Jairam Banan decided to leave Mumbai. So that he can do his own restaurant business in Delhi. After coming to Delhi in the year 1974, he got the job of running the canteen of Central Electronics Limited in Ghaziabad. He had invested Rs 2000 in this canteen. After this, he opened his first restaurant in the year 1986 in Defense Colony, South Delhi.

He named it Sagar. From here he earned Rs 408 on the first day. 40 people could sit in his restaurant. He paid special attention to the quality of food. As a result, his business started catching up. After four years opened another restaurant in Delhi and added Ratna name to the new store. This is how Sagar Ratna became a brand.

Sagar Ratna has outlets in foreign countries as well.

Today, Sagar Ratna of Jairam Banana has outlets not only in the country but also in Canada, Singapore, Bangkok. He is also called by the name of Dosa King. Apart from Sagar Ratna, he runs another restaurant chain named Swagat. He opened it in the year 2001. After this, he has been continuously successful, today he has achieved such a position, where it is everyone's dream to reach.
