NCERT: NCERT has not removed the periodic table from its textbooks. Now it will be studied by the students of class 11 and not class 10. It has been removed only from the 10th books.
NCERT: NCERT has not removed the periodic table from its books, but now students of class 11th will study it instead of class 10th. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has issued a clarification following widespread criticism over the removal of the periodic table from Class 10 textbooks. The NCERT said the subject has not been dropped, but has been shifted to Class 11 textbooks in an effort to reduce the burden on students in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In this regard, NCERT has mentioned the reasons for revision of class 10th syllabus by tweeting. NCERT wrote that during the situation of Kovid-19 pandemic, students of all stages of school education had to struggle a lot to continue their studies through online and other means.
As per NCERT, Class 9th covers fundamental concepts like elements, symbols, compound formation, atoms and molecules. While the class 10th syllabus includes topics including chemical reactions, acids, bases, salts, metals, non-metals and carbon. A detailed study of the Periodic Table has been reserved for students studying Science in class 11th and 12th.
Regarding rationalization of the periodic table:
Discussion about basic concepts such as elements, symbols, formation of compounds, atoms and molecules have been dealt with in class 9.
The council said that the syllabus has been revised after considering all aspects. Concerns were expressed over the syllabus by various stakeholders including Parliamentary Standing Committee, NCERT. NCERT said that in the revision those things are given priority, which can be easily understood by the children.
It has been decided to remove the mention of Khalistan from NCERT books. In fact, last month the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) wrote a letter to the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). In this, it was demanded that the mention of Khalistan should be removed from the 12th class book. Also, the mention of the fact that Sikhs are shown as 'separatists' should be removed from NCERT books.
