The country can save 16 thousand crore rupees with the help of coal, experts told how

India has an estimated coal bed methane reserve of 2600 billion cubic metres. India had produced more than 778.19 million tonnes of coal in the financial year 2022-23.

Energy products account for the largest share in the total import bill of the country. Then whether it is crude oil or gas. But the government can reduce this bill by more than 16 thousand crore rupees. This means that the government can reduce its expenditure by $ 2 billion. According to experts, the government can reduce its energy import bill by using coal. According to experts, if the country uses 10 percent of its 2,600 billion cubic meters of coal bed methane reserves, India can reduce its energy import bill by $2 billion.

There will be savings of more than 16 thousand crores

During the last financial year, India's coal production was seen at a record level. The government is planning to increase it. Experts believe that the use of coal bed methane can help the country save more than USD 2 billion on the import bill in future. They say that India has an estimated coal bed methane reserve of 2600 billion cubic metres. India had produced more than 778.19 million tonnes of coal in the financial year 2022-23.

Government can increase coal production

According to Dr. JS Sharma, head of ICCSA, the government is planning to increase the production of coal to more than one billion tonnes by the financial year 2025-26. Therefore, all of us together should use coal bed methane. Which in turn will help in reducing pollution and will also boost India's energy security. Even if the industry can use only 10 percent of it.

12 states have CBM reserves

He said that the more we use CBM, the more the country will save. Through ICCSA, we are trying to raise awareness about the potential of methane. The estimated CBM resources in the country are about 2600 Billion Cubic Meters (BCM) in 12 states of India. In order to take advantage of the country's CBM capacity, to make the exploration and use of CBM mandatory, the government implemented the CBM policy in 1997.
