Same Sex Marriage Case: 'Homosexuality a disorder, it will increase if marriages are legalised', claims RSS affiliate

Same Sex Marriage Survey: According to the Sanvardhini Nyas, doctors believe that homosexuality will further increase in the society if gay marriage is legalised.

RSS Wing Same Sex Marriage Survey: A five-judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court is hearing petitions to legalize same-sex marriage in India. Meanwhile, an associate of the women's wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has released a survey. Samwardhini Nyas claimed that many doctors and medical professionals believe that homosexuality is a "disorder".

According to news agency PTI, it further states that doctors believe that homosexuality will increase further in the society if same-sex marriage is legalised. A senior activist of Rashtra Sevika Samiti, a women's organization parallel to the RSS, said the survey's findings are based on 318 responses received from medical professionals across the country, including medical professionals from eight different healing modalities, from modern science to Ayurveda.

"May further promote disorder"

According to the Samvardhini Nyas, 70 per cent of the surveyed physicians and allied medical professionals considered homosexuality a disorder, while 83 per cent confirmed the high risk of transmission of sexually transmitted diseases in same-sex relationships. According to the organization, the medical professionals who took part in the survey said that the decision to legalize same-sex marriages can further promote this disorder in the society instead of curing the patients and bringing them back to normalcy.

"Counseling is the best option"

Nyas said that the results of the survey show that counseling is a better option to cure patients suffering from such psychological disorders. In the survey, it has been suggested to know the opinion of the public before taking any decision on the demand for legal recognition of same-sex marriages. According to the trust, 67 per cent of the doctors surveyed said they felt that gay parents would not be able to raise children well. Over 57 per cent of the doctors surveyed opposed the Supreme Court's intervention in the matter.
