For this Cannes of France was chosen as the location.

Opening ceremony postponed due to Hitler

The film festival held in Cannes also got the support of the French government. The French government declared it the official Cannes Film Festival. The date of the opening ceremony of this festival was kept on 1 September 1939. To make it a success, a gala night was organized a day earlier on 30th August.

Celebrities from all over the world took part in it. But Hitler attacked Poland on 1 September 1939. Because of this, its opening ceremony had to be postponed for 10 days. Meanwhile, war started between France and Britain. Due to World War II, the Cannes Festival was postponed for 6 years.

When did the first Cannes Film Festival start?

After the end of World War II, the Cannes Film Festival was successfully organized for the first time from 20 September to 5 October 1946. More than 20 countries had participated in this. Talking about this festival, selected films and documentaries from all over the world are screened.
