New Delhi. Police has started a big campaign against child marriage in Assam. So far, more than 2200 people have been arrested in this case in the state, including the Pandits and Maulvis who conducted such marriages. In fact, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma had recently given instructions to deal strictly with the prevention of child marriage in the state, after which the police have registered 4,004 cases of child marriage in less than a fortnight.
Meanwhile, questions are being raised about this campaign of the police and many leaders are terming the arrests of the police as discriminatory on religious grounds. In this episode, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi raised the question that 'what will happen to the girls who have got married? Who will take care of them?
'BJP government is biased towards Muslims'
Awasi told news agency ANI, 'Assam government has registered 4000 cases. Why are they not opening new schools? The BJP government in Assam is biased towards Muslims. He gave land to the landless people in Upper Assam, but did not do so in Lower Assam.
At the same time, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) President Maulana Badruddin Ajmal also targeted Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma for these arrests and said that this step has been taken to persecute the Muslims of the state.

MP from Dhubri, Assam, Ajmal said, 'Our Chief Minister sometimes suddenly dreams that it's been a long time since I didn't persecute Muslims. So he wakes up from his sleep… and starts planning with which schemes he can persecute the Muslims.
Meanwhile, women in various districts of the state also opposed this move saying that they would face livelihood problems. Many women gheraoed the police stations at many places and demanded the immediate release of their husbands and sons who were arrested by the police. During this, he also tried to stop the police vehicle, in which the arrested people were being taken to the court.

The question of these women is 'Who will take care of us now'. Niroda Dole, 55, from Majuli district said, 'Why are only men being held? How will we and our children live? We do not have the means of income. Another such woman says, 'I have married my choice. I demand the police and administration to release my husband immediately.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday that so far 4074 cases related to child marriage have been registered in Assam, while 8134 people have been identified as accused. Out of these, 2211 people have been arrested till this morning. He told reporters that this campaign started across the state from Friday morning will continue for the next three to four days.
Explain that the Assam government recently decided that those who marry girls below the age of 14 years will be booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and those who marry girls aged 14-18 years. A case will be registered against the perpetrators under the Prevention of Child Marriage Act, 2006. Such people will be arrested and the marriage will be declared invalid. On the other hand, if the age of the boy is also less than 14 years, then he will be sent to the reformation home because minors cannot be produced in the court.
