According to a research by the US National Institute of Health, the chemicals used for hair straightening can increase the risk of uterine cancer.

Many chemicals are found in these products available in the market. Some time ago, a research has been done in American, knowing about which you might not even believe. Yes, if you straighten your hair to enhance the beauty of your hair, the risk of uterine cancer may increase.

What was revealed in the research

A research has been done on this by the US National Institute of Health. According to research, the chemicals used for hair straightening can increase the risk of uterine cancer. This research has been published in the National Cancer Institute on October 17 last year.

The researchers used data from more than 33,000 women who participated in the study. Apart from breast cancer, this research was being done to find out the risk factor in other health problems. At the time the women were enrolled in the study, they were asked about their use of a variety of hair products, including hair dyes, straighteners and relaxers, and permanents or body waves, over the previous year.

Cancer risk doubled in women

After an average follow-up of nearly 11 years, women who reported using hair straightening products were almost twice as likely to develop uterine cancer. Women who used straighteners frequently (more than 4 times in the previous year) were almost two and a half times more likely to develop uterine cancer. However, no association was found between other hair products such as hair dye, bleach, highlights or perms and uterine cancer in the research.

Cancer risk due to chemicals

A link has been found between certain hair products and cancer. Some of the chemicals used in these products can be absorbed through the scalp and have estrogen-like properties in the body. Some products may also contain other chemicals, such as formaldehyde, which have been linked to cancer.
