Need US visa quickly then go to other country… have to wait long for interview in India

Interview waiting time for getting B1/B2 visa in Bangkok is only 14 days. There, the waiting time is 589 days in Kolkata and 638 days in Mumbai.

If you want a US Visa in a hurry, then go to another country and get it because you may have to wait a long time for an interview in India. This is because applicants going to America for the first time do not come under the interview process. And those whose visas expired more than four years ago can apply at select US embassies abroad to reduce the waiting time in India.

One of them is Bangkok. Interview waiting time for getting B1/B2 visa in Bangkok is only 14 days. There, the waiting time is 589 days in Kolkata and 638 days in Mumbai. Anil Kalsi, joint secretary of the Travel Agents Federation of India, said Indians who urgently need to go to the US are already going to third countries to apply for US visas because of the long waiting list here.

Waiting period had reached 1000 days

He said that these countries include Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Delhi-based travel agent Kalsi said, 'I had a client. He got his H1B stamped in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) as he could not get an appointment time in India. In fact, at the end of last year the waiting period for B1/B2 visa had reached 1000 days. After this, America took a big step to reduce the interview waiting time.

US Embassy took a big step

The US Embassy had said that US visa aspirants can now submit applications through 'Drop Box'. After this more applicants from India were made eligible for exemption in interview. With the number of B1/B2 visa applicants in Mumbai being 638, the interview waiting time has come down considerably. There are 617 B1/B2 visa applicants in Chennai, 609 in Hyderabad, 596 in Delhi and 589 in Kolkata.

More than 1 lakh applications processed in January

The US Mission in India processed over 1 lakh visa applications in January this year. This is more than any month since July 2019. Earlier this was not done. The US Embassy in Delhi tweeted on Saturday that as our team grows, our capacity will grow.
