In Hinduism, Shivratri festival is considered best for worshiping Mahadev, the God of Gods. According to Shivpuran, Mahadev and Mother Parvati were married on the day of Mahashivaratri. Every year the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month is celebrated as the festival of Mahashivaratri. This time this date is falling on 18 February 2023, Saturday. A special date is being formed on this day because Shani Pradosh Vrat will also be observed on Shivratri. In such a situation, the worship done on this day will be more important. While worshiping Mahadev on the day of Mahashivaratri, keep in mind that before offering water to him, mix black sesame seeds in it. Chant Shiva mantras while mixing sesame seeds. It is believed that by doing this, Lord Shiva becomes happy soon.

There is also a special importance of performing Rudrabhishek of Lord Bholenath on the day of Mahashivaratri. If possible, try to do Rudrabhishek of Bholenath with curd on this day. It is believed that by doing this one gets the benefit of wealth and progress in life.

It will be auspicious to worship Lord Shani on this great festival. Apart from this, recite Shiv Chalisa and Shani Chalisa as well. By doing this all the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled.

While worshiping on the day of Shivratri, most of the people offer Champa or Ketaki flowers on the Shivling. However, doing so is not considered auspicious at all. Try to offer Kaner, Marigold, Rose, Aak etc. flowers to Lord Shiva on this day. Apart from this, also offer Belpatra, Dhatura and honey.

Chanting the mantras of Lord Shiva during worship is considered very necessary and auspicious. That's why try to chant Mahamrityunjaya Mantra at least 108 times on Mahashivaratri. Apart from this, chanting of 'Om Namah Shivay' mantra is also auspicious.
