Holi 2023: Holashtak will remain from February 27 to March 7, know what to do and what not to do


Holashtak is not considered auspicious in Hinduism. For this reason, house warming, marriage, engagement, mundan and any other auspicious work is prohibited due to Holashtak. At the same time, worship-recitation and chanting of mantras are especially beneficial.

No auspicious work can be done for 8 days before Holi. Holashtak will remain from 27 February to 7 March . The time of exactly 8 days of Holi is called Holashtak. Holika Dahan will take place on March 7, then Holashtak will end and Holi with colors will be played on March 8.

Holashtak is not considered auspicious in Hinduism. For this reason, house warming, marriage, engagement, mundan and any other auspicious work is prohibited due to Holashtak. At the same time, worship-recitation and chanting of mantras are especially beneficial. According to the scriptures, during the first 8 days of Holi, especially worshiping Lord Vishnu, chanting mantras and chanting Mahamrityunjaya mantra is considered good.

Do not do this auspicious work during Holashtak

During this time marriage, engagement, shaving, house warming or doing any new work is prohibited. Apart from this, buying new things in these 8 days is also considered inauspicious. That's why during these 8 days the deal of new car, new shop, gold and land or house should not be done.

What to do on holashtak

The best way is to worship Lord Vishnu on Holashtak. During Holashtak, Lord Vishnu's devotee Prahlad worshiped fiercely, due to which Lord Sri Hari was pleased with his devotee Prahlad. During Holashtak, worship of Gods and Goddesses, chanting of mantras and worship of Lord Vishnu and Mahadev should be done specially. . Apart from this, chanting Mahamrityunjaya Mantra during Holashtak is the most effective way. By this one gets relief from all kinds of sufferings, diseases and all kinds of other troubles.

Why do not do auspicious work on Holashtak

The first 8 days of Holi are not considered auspicious time. Actually, there is a mythological story behind it, due to which this practice has been going on since the Vedic period. It is believed that from the Ashtami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Phalgun month to the full moon, King Hiranyakashyap had tortured his son and devotee of Lord Vishnu, Prahlad in many ways. Till these days, the devotee of Vishnu had endured every suffering while chanting the name of the Lord. In the end, Holika, the sister of Hiranyakashyap, took Vishnu devotee Prahlad in her lap and sat in the fire pit to kill him. Holika had the boon that she could not burn in fire. But to protect his devotee Prahlad, Lord Vishnu ended Holika's boon and burnt her in the fire. For these 8 days, Vishnu devotee Prahlad had to bear various kinds of sufferings, due to which no auspicious work is done during the 8 days of Holashtak.
