Bullet Train: 'Bullet train is the dream project of this country', High Court dismisses the petition

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train: The Bombay High Court on Thursday (February 9) dismissed Godrej & Boyce's plea against the land acquisition initiated by the Maharashtra government and NHSRCL in Mumbai's Vikhroli area for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. Gave. The court said that the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train is a dream project of this country, of national importance and in public interest.

A division bench of Justice RD Dhanuka and Justice MM Sathaye said that the project is unique in itself and public interest will take precedence over private interest.

Where is the screw stuck in the project?

Out of the total 508.17 km rail track between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, 21 km will be underground. One of the entry points of the underground tunnel falls on Godrej's land in Vikhroli. The state government and the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) had claimed that the entire project was being delayed because of the company, while the project was important to the public.

The government had told the High Court that the acquisition process for the entire route of the project has been completed except for the area located in Vikhroli area of Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Company Limited.

The state government has given compensation of 264 crores in last October.

The state government had earlier told the court that it had already paid Rs 264 crore as compensation to the company in October last year. Godrej & Boyce had filed a petition challenging the order issued on September 15, 2022 by the Maharashtra government to compensate him.

The court also refused to accept Godrej's argument that initially the compensation was fixed at Rs 572 crore but when the final award was pronounced, it was reduced to Rs 264 crore. Explain that the company and the government are embroiled in a legal dispute since 2019 over the acquisition case in the Bullet Train project.
