Army's companion since 1976, now this Swedish rifle will be made in the country itself

The Modi government is constantly trying to reduce the country's defense imports. One advantage of this is that along with domestic companies, foreign companies are also coming to India and setting up factories. Sweden's famous Carl-Gustaf rifle will also start being made in the country very soon.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government is continuously focusing on strengthening the manufacturing sector in order to promote industries and generate employment in the country. It also includes defense products so that defense imports can be reduced. For this, a plan like Defense Corridor has also been made in the country. Now there is news that Sweden's famous Carl-Gustaf Rifle will also be made in India.

Sweden's defense company Saab has planned to set up a Carl-Gustaf rifle factory in India. This will help in the production of multi-role weapon systems for the Indian Armed Forces.

Benefit from 'Make in India'

Saab India Technologies, the Indian arm of the Swedish company, will set up this factory under the 'Make in India' initiative. The Carl-Gustaf rifle defense system to be made here will be completely made in India. It will be prepared keeping in mind the needs of the Indian Army.

Not only this, Saab India Technologies Chairman and Managing Director Mats Pamberg says that the company will also partner with small suppliers in India for the production of these rifles.

Why is the Carl-Gustaf M4 special?

Sweden's Carl-Gustaf M4 rifle is a multi-role weapons system. A soldier can carry it in hand i.e. it is a man-portable weapon. Its weight is only 7 kg and its response time is very less. In such a situation, during the war, it makes the attack of the army man quick. At the same time, it gives the ability to hit fast and far with different sizes of ammunition. The Indian Army has been using this rifle since 1976.

Carl-Gustaf with 'Self-reliant India'

Mats Pamberg said that we are fully committed to the Indian government's resolve to become self-reliant in the defense sector. In this direction, we are setting up a manufacturing unit in India for Carl-Gustaf rifles. This will further strengthen its production in the country.

He said that the Carl-Gustaf M4 would be produced here. Along with this, components for the users of this system for the world will also be manufactured in this factory.
