NSA Doval meets President Putin

In a tweet from the Embassy of Russia in India, it has been told that (National Security Advisor-NSA) NSA Ajit Doval met President Putin. The tweet said, “Various bilateral and regional issues were discussed. It was agreed to continue working towards the implementation of the India-Russia strategic partnership.

In fact, Doval went on a two-day visit to Russia on Wednesday. During this, during the discussion between NSA Ajit Doval and the Russian President, it was agreed to continue working towards implementing the strategic partnership between the two countries. This visit of NSA to Russia is taking place three months after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's visit to this country.\

During his visit, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar and Russia both sides vowed to expand their economic engagement, including India's import of petroleum products from their "time-tested" partner. Doval's visit to Moscow comes a few weeks before the G-20 foreign ministers' meeting in New Delhi. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is expected to visit India to attend the meeting on March 1 and 2.

The talks focused on bilateral and regional issues

The Indian Embassy in Moscow said the discussion focused on bilateral and regional issues, but did not elaborate on the issues. Russian Ambassador to New Delhi Denis Alipov said on Monday (February 6) that Russia wants to further diversify its relations with India. On Wednesday (February 8), NSA Doval participated in the 5th meeting of Secretaries of Security Councils and NSAs on Afghanistan hosted by Russia.

In the meeting, Doval said that no country should be allowed to use Afghan territory for exporting terrorism and asserted that India will never abandon the people of Afghanistan in their time of need. Apart from Russia and India, representatives of Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan participated in the meeting.

Significantly, despite Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, relations between India and Russia remained strong. India's import of Russian crude oil has increased significantly in the last few months, despite growing disquiet in many western countries. India has not yet condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine and has been maintaining that the crisis should be resolved through diplomacy and dialogue.
