Before preparing the budget on Thursday, 'Halwa Ceremony' will be celebrated. Due to Corona, this event of Halwa ceremony was canceled before the budget for the last 2 years. The ceremony marks the last phase of the preparation of the Union Budget. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman traditionally starts it by making halwa in a pan and then serves it to her colleagues at the ministry headquarters in Delhi.

Big officials including the Finance Minister are involved

Halwa Ceremony is always organized after the completion of the budget preparation. For this reason, Halwa Ceremony is also considered as an indicator of the completion of the budget. In this, along with the Finance Minister, all the senior officials of the Finance Ministry are involved. In order to avoid leaking the information related to the budget, 100 employees, including senior officials, stay in the premises of the Finance Ministry and leave only after the presentation of the budget by the Finance Minister.

Why is Halwa ceremony celebrated?

In Indian culture, any auspicious work starts with eating sweets. For this reason, it is celebrated on completion of the budget work. Due to this, the hard work of the employees of the ministry is supported.

Where is Halwa ceremony celebrated?

Halwa Ceremony is celebrated in the premises located at 10 North Block of the Ministry of Finance. After the Halwa Ceremony, the employees who print the budget stay in the premises till the budget is presented.
