Srinagar: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday unfurled the national flag amid tight security at the historic clock tower at Lal Chowk in Srinagar as part of his 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'. Rahul took a 30-minute break from the journey at Sonawar before leaving for Ghantaghar to unfurl the tricolor and reached the state Congress Committee's headquarters at Maulana Azad Road.

During the hoisting of the national flag at Lal Chowk, Rahul's sister and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and leaders of the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the party were present there. The security arrangements for this ten-minute program were very strong.

All the roads leading to Lal Chowk were sealed since Saturday night itself and the movement of vehicles was completely banned. Shops, business establishments and the weekly flea market were closed in view of security arrangements for the flag hoisting by the former Congress president at Lal Chowk.

After Lal Chowk, the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' will move towards Nehru Park in the boulevard area of the city, where the 4,080 km long march will end. This journey started from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on September 7 and has passed through 75 districts across the country.

Rahul Gandhi will unfurl the tricolor at the Congress headquarters on MA Road in Srinagar on Monday, after which a public meeting will be held at SK Stadium. Leaders of 23 opposition parties have been invited for this public meeting.
