The days of Air India as soon as the Tatas came in hand, now the focus is on the expansion plan

Air India is going to induct five aircraft of Boeing's wide size and 25 aircraft of smaller size of Airbus in its fleet in the next 15 months. Air India has 70 small aircraft

Tata has increased its focus on its expansion plan by bringing Air India under control. Tata Group-controlled Air India is in talks with aircraft makers to triple its fleet of aircraft. Air India Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Vinod Hajmadi gave this information on Friday. Hajmadi said at an event that in the past the issue of self-sustainability was dominant for Air India but now it is looking towards growth path after the acquisition of Tata group. In January this year, the Tata group took over control of Air India from the government.

Airline in 'taxing phase'

Hajmadi said the airline is currently in the taxing phase and it will take two years to reinvent itself and enter the growth phase. Right now our focus is on the taxing phase which is to fix the fundamentals and identify the mistakes, he said. It's time. After six months we have to think about flying. Our journey to make us fly, strengthen ourselves and grow on the path of growth will be about two years. Taxing is the process of moving aircraft stationed at airports from one place to another. However, it does not include the process of aircraft running on the runway before takeoff.

Tata group investing heavily in Air India

In January this year, the Tata group took over control of Air India from the government. After that the Tata group presented a comprehensive plan to turn the loss-making airline. It emphasizes on industry leadership, strong operations, commercial capability, engaging the industry's best talent and delivering an immersive customer experience.

Hajmadi said that to achieve all these goals, Air India is investing heavily in technology, digitization and augmentation of manpower. In this sequence, Air India is going to induct five aircraft of Boeing's wide size and 25 aircraft of Airbus small size in its fleet in the next 15 months. Air India has 70 aircraft of small size. Of them, 54 aircraft are in operation while the remaining 16 aircraft will be gradually put into service by the beginning of next year. At the same time, 33 aircraft are currently in operation out of a total of 43 aircraft of large size.
