According to the legend, Daksha Prajapati, father of Mother Sati, performed a Mahayagya at a place named Kankhal which is known as Haridwar. In that yagya all the gods and goddesses including Brahma, Vishnu, Indra were called but Lord Shiva was not invited. Mata Sati got information about this. To know the answer of not inviting her husband to the yagya, she reached out to her father Daksha.

When the Shaktipeeth was established due to the anger of Shiva

When Mother Sati asked this question to her father, she said abusive words to Lord Shiva. insulted them. Mother Sati, being enraged by the humiliation, sacrificed her life in the fire pit of the same yagya. When Lord Shiva got this information, he got angry and his third eye opened.

He started doing tandav and went to the place where the body of Mother Sati was. He picked up the body of Mother Sati and placed it on her shoulder. Lord Shiva's orgy continued. He turned towards Kailash. Seeing the danger of catastrophe rising on the earth, Lord Vishnu started dissecting the body of Mother Sati with his Sudarshan Chakra. In this way, different parts of his body fell at different places. This happened 51 times, thus 51 Shaktipeeths were established.

  1. Mukut: His crown fell in Kiritkon village of Murshidabad in West Bengal. Here she was known as Mata Vimala.
