The great educationist Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan loved to live life with utmost simplicity. He was well-liked among the students due to his simplicity and knowledge. How much the students liked him, it can be gauged from his departure. In 1921, when he was leaving Mysore University and going to Calcutta University , he became very emotional. Not only this, the students had made his farewell very special.

The students of Maharaja's College, Mysore brought him a wagon decorated with flowers and parked it outside the auditorium. When he came out of the university, he was shocked to see the buggy. There were no horses in the wagon. He was surprised to see this. After they came out, some students came forward and started pulling the wagon with their hands. In this way the students took their favorite teacher to the Mysore railway station.

Today is the birth anniversary of the same Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, which is celebrated as Teacher's Day. Born on 5 September 1888 in Tiruttani, Tamil Nadu, Dr. Radhakrishnan was also the first Vice President and second President of the country. Apart from being a teacher, he was also a philosopher.

That special way to pacify the anger of the members in the Rajya Sabha

While in the post of Vice President, when Dr. Radhakrishnan used to preside over the session of Rajya Sabha, his style of working was highly appreciated. He used to react calmly to the uproar and protests in the House. He was also known to handle such matters. Whenever a member of the House became angry with another member, Dr. Radhakrishnan used to pacify his anger by reciting the shloka. This quality of his was always appreciated.

When Chinese dictator served non-vegetarian food to Dr. Radhakrishnan

In the year 1957, Dr. Radhakrishnan went to China. He was to meet the Chinese dictator Mao. Mao invited them to his house. When he reached home, Mao received him. As soon as the two met, Radhakrishnan patted Mao's cheeks. When Mao was shocked at this, he said, "Don't worry, I have shown such love and belonging to Stalin and the Pope."

Dr. Radhakrishna was a vegetarian. After the meeting, food was presented in front of both of them. To show his love, Mao placed a piece of cooked meat on Dr. Radhakrishnan's plate with his chopsticks. Mao was not aware that Dr. Radhakrishnan does not like meat-eating. Dr. Radhakrishnan did not let Mao know about the big mistake he had made while eating the meal.

This is how the process of celebrating Teacher's Day started

On becoming the President of India, many students expressed their desire to celebrate his birthday. To this Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan said, If my birthday is celebrated as Teacher's Day, then it will be a matter of pride. And the same happened. In this way, the celebration of his birthday on 5th September as Teacher's Day started in the country.
