Chennai, Aug 15 (UNI) Model-turned-actor Meera Mitun, who was arrested  by the police from a resort at Alappuzha in Kerala last evening for her casteist  slur remarks, was on Sunday brought to the city and remanded in judicial  custody till August 27.  She was arrested by a special Cyber Crime police team after she failed  to appear for inquiry in connection with a case booked against her.  She was brought to the city today and produced before the 11th Saidapet  Metropolitan Magistrate, who remanded her in judicial custody till August 27,  according to a police release.

During an interview with a YouTube channel, Meera had said that all  the Scheduled Caste film workers should be kicked out of the industry.  Based on a complaint from Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi functionary  Vanniyarasu, the cyber crime police of the Central Crime Branch booked  her under seven sections of the IPC and under the Scheduled Castes and  Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.  She had been summoned to appear before the Cyber Crime police for  questioning on August 12 in connection with the case.  However, she failed to appear and went absconding, following which  a special team nabbed her in Kerala.  After obtaining a transit remand, she was brought to Chennai today.

After questioning, she was produced before the court and remanded  in judicial custody.  Police also arrested Mira's friend Akash in connection with the case  and he was being questioned. He would be produced before the  court later for judicial remand.  UNI GV 1653
