Ishan Kishan and Prithvi Shaw finished the match in first 15 overs: Shikhar Dhawan

Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan says he enjoyed watching the team's young batsmen from the non-striker's end smash the opposition bowlers during the first ODI against Sri Lanka on Sunday.
The captain said that Ishan Kishan and Prithvi Shaw together finished the match in the first 15 overs.

In the match played at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Team India defeated Sri Lanka by 7 wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

After the win in the first ODI, Dhawan said, "Of course, all our boys have played here before, they have become more aggressive and mature with time. The way he played today was fantastic. And I am happy with his performance."

Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal took 2-2 wickets to restrict Sri Lanka to 262/9. In reply, Team India achieved the target of 263 runs losing just three wickets in 36.4 overs.

Dhawan praised the batsmen as well as the bowlers, especially the spinners. “We knew there was a bit of turn in the wicket but from the 10th over onwards, the way our spin bowlers bowled, we came straight back into the match. They took wickets and all the three spin bowlers did a great job and then the fast bowlers also did a good job."

For Team India, Shaw scored 43 runs in 24 balls. While playing the debut match, Kishan scored 59 runs off 42 balls. Regarding these two batsmen, Dhawan said, "When we batted, I thought it was wonderful to stand at the other end and watch Prithvi play in the first seven overs and then Ishan came and started playing in his first ODI, I rested him. Was asking to play with.

"The way Ishan and Prithvi batted today, it was excellent and they finished the match in the first 15 overs," he said.
