Former India and Rajasthan fast bowler Pankaj Singh announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Saturday. Pankaj, 36, represented India in two Tests and one ODI. Pankaj made this announcement through a letter sent to the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA).
Singh said in his statement, "It is not an easy decision to make, however, there comes a time in every player's life when one has to call it a day. With a heavy heart and mixed feelings, I officially announce my retirement from all forms of cricket."
The right-arm pacer represented Rajasthan for almost a decade before moving to Pondicherry in 2018. He returned to play for Rajasthan a year later and made his last appearance in this year's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Singh said, “Today is the toughest day for me, but it is also a day of reflection and gratitude. It is a great honor for me to play for RCA, BCCI, IPL and CAP (Cricket Association of Pondicherry). I have been a part of RCA for almost 15 years and have reached many milestones and gained incredible experience under RCA roof. My journey with RCA has always been memorable and will always be my first priority.”
In 117 first-class matches, Singh took 472 wickets, including 28 five-wicket hauls. He also has 118 List A wickets in 79 matches. He took 43 wickets in 57 T20 matches. He was instrumental in winning the Ranji Trophy titles in the 2010–11 and 2011–12 seasons in Rajasthan.
Singh's first ODI was against Sri Lanka in the 2010 Tri-Series in Zimbabwe. His two Test matches were against England in 2014 when he took two wickets.
