Plasma therapy will not be used to treat corona, ICMR removed, new guidelines released

AIIMS / ICMR-Covid-19 (Covid-19) The National Task Force / Joint Monitoring Group, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has changed the clinical guidelines for the treatment of Adult Corona Patients.
In addition, the ICMR has removed Plasma Therapy from the Covid Treatment Protocol. According to the report, all members in the ICMR-National Task Force meeting on Kovid-19 were in favor that the use of plasma therapy should be removed from medical guidelines for treatment management of adult patients of Kovid-19, as it was not effective. And in many cases it has been used improperly.

Recently some doctors and scientists wrote a letter to Principal Scientific Advisor K Vijayaraghavan cautioned about the 'irrational and non-scientific use' of plasma therapy for the treatment of Kovid-19 in the country. A letter regarding this was also sent to ICMR chief Balaram Bhargava and AIIMS director Randeep Guleria. In this, public health professionals said that the current guidelines on plasma therapy are not based on existing evidence.

What is plasma therapy?

Experts say that when a person is infected with the corona virus, antibodies are produced in the blood to fight the virus in his body. Antibodies work by eliminating virus infection. In many cases, the virus has been destroyed after antibodies were made in the body. When an infected person becomes healthy, antibodies are produced in the person's body. After 15 days of corona negative, a person can donate blood ie plasma. The infected person is treated with the help of blood plasma of antibodies.
